are in boston. he will also campaign in ohio and pennsylvania, a state that hasn't voted for a republican presidential nominee since george bush senior, back in '88. what does that tell you? is that a hail mary backup in case he loses ohio or just worth a try since he's in the neighborhood or does he think he really has a chance? >> it depends on who you ask, anderson. clearly the polls have tightened up in pennsylvania. they took a look at it, when you talk to the folks in the romney campaign they say listen, we have spent the money, we need to spend in all these battleground states that john was talking about. all of our resources that we can put in there are there. we are up on the air as much as we can be. there's no more room for ads on tv in all these battleground states and they took a look at pennsylvania and said first of all, it's right next door to ohio so not like they have to go across the country to go there. plus more than 90% of pennsylvanians will vote on election day. there's no early voting in pennsylvania. absentees, you have to meet a certain criteria so the vast majo

40. boston 45 degrees. you get out towards chicago, they were at 45 as well. not a lot of warm air. we have a few shots that are warmer than normal but not nearly at many as we saw last week. tampa at 67 degrees. phoenix at 882. most of the country starting to trpped down into a cooler and also very quiet weather pattern for the time being. here is where temperatures stand at this hour. still 28 degrees at manassas. we have not dropped too much there. frederick, you have, though, down to 28 degrees. gait thusburg at 30, winchester at 30. i don't think it's going to get too much colder than this because we did have a deck of clouds coming in. that should protect us from getting too much older. you can see from the northwest, 32, down in south raleigh, 41. now, these are not the biggest clouds that we have seen and i don't believe they'll produce any kind of precipitation. they might be up there to protect some of these areas from getting colder. watching the beginning of the storm system that will move over to the coast. i know you hear the word coastal and you think, what's up with

"boston globe" political reporter matt viser is here. he was at the white house reporting on that lunch. and also presidential historian douglas brinkley, my pal, whose most recent book, great book, "cronkite." let me start with matt. and the reporting here. we knew this was coming. the president said he wanted to do it, and there is a tradition of burying the hatchet. what else got done? did that get done? did they bury the hatchet? >> it was a symbolic moment that seems mostly symbolic. there doesn't appear to be much substance that came out of the meeting. you had romney driving up in the black suv -- he didn't drive, he was in the passenger side, but all alone -- nobody to open the door for him. >> how democratic. >> nobody opened the door for him. the inauguration stage is being built in the background. >> no secret service. >> no secret service for romney. and, in fact, i think he had to provide his name and -- >> no. who made him do that? >> date of birth, social security. had to provide just like anybody else. >> aren't

. and nbc has the president up by 6 points. got all that? joining us now from boston, david. he directs polling. >> he want to run it down from your point of view. you have canvassed the whole country, know what's going on. ohio, how do you see it? >> i see it really close. if you look at the last four polls, it's one point. 1 through 8 the poll was average four to five points. what we look at is the head-to-head number. the last three consecutive polls, excluding the two you mentioned were at 48. that's a sign of vulnerability. obviously you have seven candidates on the ballot. i think those polls that had the plus four, plus five overstated obama's support because they overcounting a strong democratic county, and they had a party differential in those polls of democrats with an 8 point advantage party affiliation. >> so you see romney momentum in ohio? >> i see romney strong enough to be within a point. and that's exactly where the last four polls showed him. >> so the governor has a very, very -- he has a very good chance in ohio. how about florida? >> i don't think so. as we talked

that our travel plans between here and boston should be pretty g. out west they'll be good -- pretty good. out west they'll be good south and east could be an issue here for those who are traveling. as far as the forecast today, a cool one. clouds keeping us a little bit on the cool side today. 49 for leesburg. 47 winchester while manassas, one of our warm spots at 52 and 49 on the bay in annapolis. here's the forecast. today northeast winds at 5 so they'll be light with a high around 50. mix of sun and clouds. tonight we're dipping back into the mid- to upper 30s in d.c. with low 30s north and west. tomorrow agent bit more sunshine so should be a little warmer, about 54. saturday looks good. terps are home, 56. so a nice football fall feel to the air. then on saturday night, the clouds 41. sunday into monday, this is when we could have that coastal. close but i think not close enough to really bother us too much. still i only have a drop in. we had more rain earlier in the week so that trend has been good for us. 55 on monday and 57 on tuesday. andrea and mike, over to you. >> thank you,
